Bringing a family together on the stunning Wairarapa coast

Late last year, Masterton local Maaola Samuelu walked into WBS to enquire about our lending rates. Maaola had heard about WBS as the region’s local loans and investment provider. She was drawn to the fact that our profits stay right here in the Wairarapa, in the form of community grants and sponsorship. She was also aware of the good this support was doing in the community.

Nonu, Maaola and Sonny Samuelu are the proud new owners of a home at Mataikona thanks to Mortgage and Lending Specialist at WBS, Rose Stevens.

Having established a relationship with our lending team, WBS naturally came to Maaola’s mind when her sons, Sonny and Nonu, became aware of a property for sale at Mataikona Beach.

‘My son saw a home for him where he can do the things he loves the most, like diving and fishing and providing for his whānau,’ Maaola said.

‘Both boys have always loved going to the beach and that was a buy-in for them both.’

Maaola shared the idea of buying the house through WBS with her sons. She felt WBS would be the perfect lender for her them. They got in touch with the lending team and soon enough they had an agreement in place.

‘I wanted them to have a positive first experience of buying a property,’ Maaola said.

‘The boys would not have completed the process if they did not have the personable approach and positive experience they had with WBS.’

Mortgage and Lending Specialist at WBS, Rose Stevens, said the Samuelu’s story is one of her favourites.

‘Maaola had a vision and she brought that to her sons,’ said Rose.

‘Together, the family have invested in their future with a home at a beach that they love. They’re already sharing that gift with family from throughout the country. It’s a beautiful thing.’
