The Wairarapa Fern & Thistle Pipe Band received a grant from the WBS Charitable Trust in October last year to help towards the costs of a shade tent, to provide essential protection from sun, wind, and rain for both performers and instruments.

Chair of the WBS Charitable Trust, John Booth, says every funding round provides a glimpse into the remarkable work being carried out across the region.

‘Every application tells a story of people stepping up to support others,’ said John.

‘From community groups and sports clubs to environmental projects and support services, we’re continually inspired by the dedication of people working to make the Wairarapa a better place.’

One recent applicant, RSPCA Masterton, was granted funding in the Trust’s April funding round to help desex animals coming into its centre. The project aimed to reduce unwanted litters, improve animal welfare and support more animals into safe, loving homes.

‘This was a great example of how local funding can create lasting benefits,’ said John.

‘While the project focuses on animal welfare, the impact extends much further by supporting families, reducing pressure on community services and helping build a stronger, more caring community.’

The WBS Charitable Trust distributes funding twice a year to organisations and initiatives across arts and culture, sport and recreation, environment and sustainability, education, and community support. The Trust is funded through profit distributions from WBS, ensuring those funds are reinvested back into the Wairarapa community.
