Lights, Camera, Action – Wairarapa Film Festival Returns!
Mark your calendars for 21 – 25 May 2025, as WBS is thrilled to continue sponsorship of the Wairarapa Film Festival, a true celebration of local storytelling, creativity and community. We had the honour of interviewing Festival Director and Founder, Jane Ross.

Jane’s purpose and passion are infectious. With remarkable ties to national and international film circles, Jane has cultivated a unique festival showcasing her desire to shine a spotlight on incredible local film royalty, with connections to stories, people and places of our region. Now entering its fifth year, the Wairarapa Film Festival has evolved from its inception during the global Covid 19 pandemic, to a significant event attracting contribution and attendance of high profile, globally-respected film and documentary makers. Expect another exciting programme of screenings, film talks, panel discussions and masterclasses – all available at waifilmfest.co.nz.
A special addition this year is the launch of the inaugural 50 Hour Film Project, proudly sponsored by WBS. Open to aspiring filmmakers under the age of 25, participants have just 50 hours to race around Wairarapa to shoot, edit and produce a short film using only smartphones. The winning team will be decided by a judging panel, led by Mark Ordesky – executive producer of the Lord of the Rings Trilogy, with a substantial cash prize on offer.
Further information is available at 50hour.co.nz.
